Learn about the latest on fascia from a global perspective and the emerging science of biotensegrity.
This 3-hour workshop, led by Dr. Carol Davis, explores the latest understanding of fascia and its role in movement, perception, and therapeutic practice. We’ll examine fascia from a global perspective, exploring how the emerging science of biotensegrity challenges outdated, machine-based biomechanics theories.
Topics include the science of fascia as “soft matter,” demonstrating why light touch can be more effective than deep pressure. We’ll discuss the malleability of the extracellular matrix and how spiral motion and gentle compression promote fascial reorganization. The workshop will also investigate fascia as the body’s largest sensory organ, distinguishing between proprioceptive and interoceptive awareness.
We’ll further explore the connection between fascia and therapeutic presence, highlighting the emerging science of resonance, empathy, and consciousness. Finally, we’ll consider fascia as a doorway to deeper self-awareness and as an instrument of connection—within oneself, with others, and with the earth.
By the end of this workshop, participants will have gained:
- Deepen your awareness of the sensory and conscious dimensions of fascia for enhancing therapeutic presence and resonance
- Understand the principles of fascia and biotensegrity as a foundation for movement and therapeutic interventions
- Learn strategies for effective fascial reorganization through light touch, spiral motion, and gentle compression

Dr. Davis is the editor of the book, Integrative Therapies in Rehabilitation, Evidence of Efficacy in Therapy, Prevention and Wellness, published by SLACK, Inc. now in its fourth edition. She has also written six editions of the text, Patient Practitioner Interaction / An Experiential Manual for Developing the Art of Patient Care, also published by SLACK, Inc.
She has practiced physical therapy for over 47 years, beginning her career at the Massachusetts General Hospital in 1969. She completed her Doctorate in Humanistic Studies at Boston University in 1982 and began on the faculty at the University of Miami in 1982, except for a two and a half year position at Boston University from 1985-87.
Her manual therapy practice with complementary therapies began in 1989 when she initiated her study of Myofascial Release with John Barnes, PT. She completed her DPT degree with the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions.
Currently, Carol is ‘semi-retired’ living in Maine and researching and writing books about Fascia. Carol continues to teach internationally about the wonderful world of Fascia and the energy within.
